This past Saturday we woke up early and got ready in our Oakland A's jerseys and headed out to Monterey. It's that time of year again.
Oakley: It's early. I'm still sleepy.
It's the Monterey County Wag n' Walk. A fundraiser that consists of a 2-4 mile walk to help raise money and awareness for homeless, abused and neglected animals in our community.
This is our 5th year in a row doing the Walk. It's always fun to meet new furiends. Especially furiends that look us. We saw a pack of pugs before the walk. One black pug and two fawn pugs. Kinda like Swisher when he was born, he was the only black pug.
We meet big furiends.
Little furiends.
Even tiny furiends, that have a circus on wheels to live in!
We saw look-a-like furiends.
And we met Pug-gerfly furiends.
The first year we did the walk it was raining. Every year after that has been warm. We get so excited even before we get off the car, by the time the walk starts, we're already tired. This is one of our own private pit stops.
We did do some walking though. Some all terrain walking at that. Sometimes it's fun to explore off the trail.
And some of us, who will remain nameless, did less walking and spent more time being carried.
Swish: Aw yeah Mom. You're the best.
Aunt V helped carry him for a while too to give Mom's arms a rest.
After the walk, we head back towards the starting area where they hand out sack lunches with yummy treats in them. Here Mom is sharing her Doritos with us.
Mom got creative and used this free frisbee we got as a water bowl.
During our lunch break, this little girl thought we were cute in our jerseys so she asked if she could come over and pet us and say Hi. We said of course!
After lunch, Mom gave it another shot with me and the agility course that is set up there. She thought using treats and having a professional and fur-essional there, it would give me the courage to walk up the big A frame. Nope.
I wasn't scared. I just didn't want to.
Of course Swish will do almost anything for a treat, and he's a show off.
So he walked up that A frame and through this long slinky tunnel like it was a just a regular walk.
So to prove that I wasn't scared...
...I made my way across this Dog Walk.
And for kicks and giggles, I jumped over this hurdle for the fun of it.
The Wag n' walk is always so much fun. We look forward to it every year and can't wait until next year to do it again.
We heard Mom and Aunt V talking about a wagon for Swish next year. We'll see how that goes.
Lots of licks,
Swisher and Oakley
Pee.S. Sorry for the long post.
